Verksamhetsberättelse 2020 för Datorföreningen Update ----------------------------------------------------- Författad av Anke Stüber (zeltophil) mars 2021 The year is started with a lot of ideas for how to increase Update's visibility. Monthly lectures, merchandise and luring students into t-salen with coffee are some of the plans under discussion. We decide that t-salen needs to look more welcoming and aquire a green cactus neon sign as an indicator for when t-salen is open. We meet at two occassions to clean up t-salen and make room for new members' projects in the shelves. We put up new shelves in the storage and take multiple car loads of scrap to the recycling yard. The enthusiasm is soon dampened by the Corona pandemic. We put all plans on hold and shut t-salen down. Several months without activity pass. We eventually carefully reopen for a maximum of five simultaneous visitors in compliance with social distancing rules. The attendance in t-salen is low throughout the rest of the year. The wednesday meetings are moved online to our IRC channel, in summer we meet outside once. Old members show up in the channel on occasion. We experiment with modern technology and start using BigBlueButton for our board meetings. In total six board meetings are held in 2020. Stingdagen in the end of August is extended to six hours on two days to spread out visitors over time. We opt to be present on the first day only. As our usual waffle booth is not Corona-safe, we need to come up with something else to attract interest. We plan to show off the organ, but the event is moved inside on short notice due to bad weather, so loud music is disallowed. We bring a C64 plus games instead. Not too many students show up and although some stop by for a chat and game we recruit no new members. In October the yearly Vintage Computing Festival Berlin (VCFB) takes place, this time online. After years of consideration Update finally decides to participate. bjarni and kgs create a video tour through Update's collection and present the club in a video conference to an interested audience from four countries. A series of technical difficulties leads to an ABC80 being the only demonstrated device. We intend to bring more computers to a working state for future exhibitions. The future of losing our rooms looms over Update the whole year. The IT department lets us know that there are no suitable rooms in the new building and no resources available to pay for our rent after the move. We ask for our members' thoughts in a questionaire and consider renting rooms on our own or cooperating with like-minded groups. A lack of version control trips us up in our fun with postscript-embedded perl when trying to invite to the autumn meeting. The board proposes to abolish paper altogether and we start reworking the bylaws to prepare us for the separation from the university. We gain one new member. The new member can't run very fast and is therefore elected as treasurer for 2021. Pontus calls to a revival of the RUDEL (Rädda Update, Död Eller Levande) group. We hold four meetings and work on everything from finding potential rooms to crowdfunding to tax rules. We meet with Uppsala Makerspace and are invited to inspect their new rooms for a possible cooperation. The year ends with the will to modernise and start offering Swish in connection with finally switching away from Nordea.
