Verksamhetsberättelse 2022 för Datorföreningen Update ----------------------------------------------------- Författad av Anke Stüber (zeltophil) mars 2023 After the huge effort made by our members and friends in December 2021 to move the biggest part of our belongings to the new localities at Svartbäcksgatan 65, there remains some work to be done. We meet on several more occasions to empty out T-salen, transport things to their new homes and throw away what we can't keep. The last servers running in our old server hall are moved in mid-January. bjarni conducts the ceremonial last closing of T-salen on January 23rd. In March we return for a short stop at Polacksbacken to rescue the raised floor from the server hall, but we stay out of the former T-salen for not to upset the spirits. Our new task is to get our new premises into a usable shape. Without further ado, our German member heurekus decides to fly over to help us evaluate our options for a mobile internet connection. During multiple work days we install network infrastructure, build a lecture setup, an access system and make many more improvements to our space. Unfortunately, after the massive amount of work Pontus put into Update's continued existence, he lets us know that he needs a break. His presence and dedication is dearly missed not only by the board. To distribute the work load and to make our decision-making processes more democratic and transparent, we start holding monthly plenary meetings. During the year, six plenary meetings are held. Many of Update's events and purchase decisions are prepared by the participants. The board complements the plenary meetings with three board meetings, where formal decisions are taken and proposals of the plenary meetings endorsed. We restart our regular activities after the moving break. Update's third mini-conference in July features four presentations by speakers from three different countries and for the first time, a second day for participants to hack on vintage computing projects together. In our lecture series "Updateringar", seven presentations and seven lightning talks are held. One of the presentations, Pontus' talk about CPUID on the PDP-8, is our third remote contribution to the yearly Vintage Computing Festival Berlin. Five Update members participate in the VCFB on site. Groups of Update members also go for two study visits: one to the The Svedberg laboratory in August and one to Dalby Datormuseum in October. Our member magazine Uptime, previously published on paper at irregular intervals, changes format to a monthly digital newsletter. bjarni, the chief editor and author of most articles, publishes seven issues during the year. In August we finally celebrate our successful move. The house-warming party with six lightning talks, food and games is well-received and both long-time members and new faces show up. New attempts at working with our collection of historical computers are taken: The "Computer of the Month" project, started in May, aims at examining, possibly repairing and exploring items from the collection. We work on and document the following machines: Esselte 100, Amiga 2000, DEC PDP-11/10, Atari Asteroids, IBM 5120, Apple II (multiple models), Sun SPARCstation 10 and TRS-80. Furthermore, over 1000 DEC modules are inventoried in detail. Lars Brinkhoff donates a UniBone, which can emulate PDP-11 peripherals and help with repairs. In the end of September we start working on an exhibition about home computers. Because of too little involvement and active members being taken up with other tasks, the progress is slow. From mid-October until the end of the year the activity level stays low.
